2025 North Carolina Bat Working Group (NCBWG) Annual Meeting
Asheville, NC
November 19th and 20th, 2025
Call for Board Members and Golden Bat Nominations 🦇
Board Nominations! The North Carolina Bat Working Group was established in 2007 in order to bring together partners to facilitate the work of existing groups, agencies and individuals to protect and conserve bats and their habitats in North Carolina. The NCBWG is considered a subunit of the regional working group for the Southeast, the SBDN. The NCBWG Board of Directors consists of two Co-Chairs, a Past Chair, a Secretary, Treasurer, and At-Large Members. Board members are nominated and elected by the membership at a designated meeting of the North Carolina Bat Working Group. And several positions are up for replacement! Positions are held for 2-year terms. Are you interested in helping out this amazing group of humans and organizing the next annual meeting?! Please send nominations to Lauren Wilson (lauren.wilson@usda.gov) by November 7, 2025. Our Current Board is as follows.
Co-Chairs: Katherine Etchison and Lauren Wilson
Past-Chair: Olivia Munzer
Treasurer: Byron Levan
Secretary: Brooke Massa
At Large Members: Rada Petric, Lindsey Zarecky, and Sue Cameron
Golden Bat Award Nominations! We are also taking nominations for our Golden Bat Award. Please send those with a short write up for why are you nominating them to Lauren Wilson by November 7, 2025.
Corporate Sponsorship: We are soliciting interest from corporate sponsors who might want to host refreshments during our annual meeting on November 19th and 20th. If your company is interested or if you have ideas about who the co-chairs should reach out to, please let Lauren or Katherine know.
Updates 🦇
- Shutdown Update: If the government shutdown continues, the meeting may be moved to a 100% virtual meeting. We actually have 3 rooms reserved in three different locations, but they are all in federal buildings. I also know that federal partners, like myself, may not be able to attend or present if the shutdown continues. We will continue to update you on this possibility and are refusing to feel like Asheville, NC, as a location for this meeting, is cursed🙂.
- Presentations: Our agenda is filling out nicely. If you know of any talks we aren’t likely to already be aware of that are a must have, let us know.
- Silent Auction: Start collecting items you might want to donate for the silent auction! October is a good month for bats.
